Hi mark, I just purchased a sub that is supposed to be one of yours. I have done some research, and it seems that you and Jeff from Jtr built three of these subs for a customer back in 07? It's a pretty large enclosure, with an 18" passive radiator and a 15" active driver inside of a 4th order box. Is it possible to verify this sub is one of yours? Also having a slot port and a passive radiator will this sub be hard to integrate with other ported subs. Thanks Shawn
These would have been the very early prototypes of the Captivator. These first ones were designed by me, built by JTR with a similar bandpass PR design to the Terraform. Jeff had issues sourcing and getting the best performance from the PR. It effectively is a low tuned, ported subwoofer with an additional, acoustic low pass filter around 100Hz (created by the chamber between the driver and PR). They can work just fine with another ported box tuned to similar low frequency. I don't remember, but I think they were tuned in the 14-16Hz range. The woofer in those was a CSS SDX-12 (previous version different from current). You could remove the 18" PR & 12" woofer and convert it to a simple vented box with an 18" woofer. An Ultimax 18 or Reference Series 18 might work well.
