As a little Christmas present to the forum I thought I would post a little more info on the huge subwoofers that we just installed in Itai's home theater this weekend before I head out for family festivities.  In case anyone missed it, the initial discussion followed Lost's leaking of some spy photos while I was busy with screwdriver, fiberglass and TEF.

Here are some pictures of the subs going in from the other thread.

Getting them downstairs was a chore, but the reasonable width and weight made it a managable workout.  Here is Kevin and I about to head down the stairs:

Here we have our local helper (and SubMersive owner/guinea pig) Kevin, aka SandBagger, and Itai amused by the size and look of these new beasts:

And as a fun addition, here is the response as measured at the listening position, after very minor EQ.  In fact, the majority of the adjustment for the room was knocking down the ~17Hz peak using 2 PEQ fitlers.  For now I chose to not boost up the very small recession in the low 20s, as it is still about at the same level as the mains.  You can see the +/-3dB window extends down to nearly 11Hz!   There is a somewhat conservative high pass in the amp to protect from exploding planets, but I may experiment with pushing more VLF in room at a later date.  Considering the subs are a little hotter than the mains, 10Hz is probably within 3-6dB of the main speaker passband, and exceptionally clean even at these very low frequencies.  Watching the opening helicopter attack of Transformers was quite impresive with the rib-massage the subs gave us this gives a partial indication why :

Looks pretty damn good to me.  I feel so cheated that my room is so  small .  The rest of you have all of the fun.

I simply love this stuff.

Thanks again Itai for being the very patient guinea pig.  I hope the holidays were a bit more fun with the newfound massage in the theater chairs.

It appears that over the next few months a few others may start experiencing similar fun to what you are observing.

Your meet on the 19th should be a definite "blast" and I am very much looking forward to it.  Have you had any more unsuspecting visitors over for a demo?

Happy New Year.

Hello,

I got on the list for two of Seaton Sounds custom subs. I can hardly wait! I will pair up Seaton Sounds custom subs with two JTR Growlers. This new design will keep me happy for many years I believe. Then I can enjoy my new toys with only what CD, DVD, HD DVD or Blu ray to buy. I really enjoyed talking to Mark, just by talking to him you really can tell that he has a passion and knowledge on how a product should perform.

Take Care,

Sweet.  More people getting Mark specials.  Again, I am sure they are fantastic subs. Can't wait to hear more feedback on them.

I'm going to have to dream up some custom sub since Mark is taking custom orders, and let him design it for me.     I'm guessing I couldn't afford his engineering and R&D costs built into the sub though.      Bummer...lol

I am thinking a MASSIVE IB project would be cool for my next house (not that I plan to move anytime soon).  I think IB's have a lot of things going for them, but the lack of a true professional behind the design is a bit of a downer.

I figure if you give Seaton a reasonable budget (well completely unreasonable to my wife) and space for say a dozen or more 15-18" drivers, he could do something REALLY special.

It looks as though there is quite a sizeable group who have RSVP'd for Itai's meet.  It should be a packed house with plenty of impressions of the result, and plenty attendees with serious subwoofer listening experience.  Maybe we'll even get Itai to post in this thread about HIS subwoofers.

I have been busy getting ready for the meet. In my "spare" time I do get to watch a few movies and the experience is amazing. These subs are great, I really can't say enough good things. Listening to DVD-A, SACD and regular CDs has been a lot of fun. Explosions are great, but this is a truly unexpected surprise.

The amazing thing is how low they go while still being so responsive. I replace equipment very quickly (according to my very understanding wife) and this is the first time I bought something where I am not thinking about the next upgrade.

Actually, these subs are going to make me upgrade the rest of the system to match.

The best part is having Mark calibrate and set everything up. My fear was that the subs would drown any sound from the rest of the system. Mark was able to blend everything well and really make it sing.

That is really great to hear.  I am sure your GTG will be sweet.

That is what I thought might happen with the SubMersive in my small room.  But Mark set it up so good that this is not an issue.  To bad I am so far away

Hello,

Quote: this is the first time I bought something where I am not thinking about the next upgrade.

This is the main reason I got on the list for Seaton Sounds to do a custom sub design for me. I want to set my room up and enjoy it. Quit all of the new upgrade madness!

I agree with the not thinking about an upgrade statement.  From the very beginning, when I first started talking with Mark, I knew that the SubMersive would be the sub I ended up keeping and not thinking about what may come next.  It is a good feeling

We all know Mark is the best at what he designs for us...  but common...

Having the cure for upgradeitis?

Yep. I am cured.  No need to go a different route for a sub.  Now, I did not say that I would not try to get more if the opportunity presented itself(I get a bigger room), but I have no desirer in seeing what other subs are out there
I simply love this stuff.

I thought this thread deserved a quick bump as I just saw an iRule/OnControls post on facebook that today marked 4 years since Itai left his full time job in the automotive field to pursue iRule.

This is the post from their facebook page this afternoon:

Quote:

It was four years ago today that iRule Cofounder & CEO Itai Ben-Gal made the momentous decision to quit his full time job as an automotive engineer to pursue iRule full time. iRule's grown today to employ a team of 22 (that's still growing), was voted Control Product of the Year by the CEA in 2014 and is now the premier choice for DIYers and professional integrators through its On Controls brand in over 60 countries.

I think we can all agree that Itai made the right decision.

Congratulations (and thank you) from the iRule family.

This year Itai moved to a new home to better accommodate his family and has a new theater planned for the basement... of course still using his pair of Terraform prototypes and 3 Catalyst 12C speakers.

If anyone isn't familiar with iRule or OnControls, be sure to check them out.  OnControls is effectively the dealer supported/installed evolution of the DIY focused iRule system.
