So I am thinking of trying out the Anthem Mrx 520 receiver with my Cat 8cs vs a dedicated Preprocessor (currently an integra 80.3). Concern is mostly sound floor (would use the rca preouts Vs balanced XLR). Runs would be about 10-15 feet.

This would enable me to use the internal amp for my in wall rears Vs an external.

Have others used xlr to rca cables with success with their Cats?

I actually tried exactly what you are proposing in my system. I tried out an anthem mrx520 with rca to xlr connections. It was fine when I just had my cat 12c's plugged in, but I was getting ground hum as soon as I plugged in my subs.

People on avs were talking about some ground hum isolator that you can purchase at best buy, but I prefer balanced connections, so back the mrx520 went.

You're welcome. Hopefully the 520 works for you if you can test it out. I liked ARC better than audyssey, but I stuck with Marrantz.
