Dear Dudes and Dudettes;

I am hereby announcing the latest East Coast Blendzilla Meet (Part Quattro) TM. Part Trey was in 2009, so it's been a while (something about finishing an MS in Systems Engineering, starting and completing a PhD in Systems Engineering, all while working as a full time System Engineer in the Rocket Racket.) Said Home Theater Meet will be held in the bucolic countryside of Northern Virginia, approximately 50 miles directly West of Washington DC.

First order of business is to determine the Meet date(s). I'm thinking mid-October, as, with the trees turning various yellows, oranges, reds, and browns, there is no prettier place on Earth than Northern Virginia. My current first choice is Saturday, October 18. Current second choice is Saturday, October 11. Please chime in and let me know who would like to come, and what your date preferences are. I will drive the Meet date by maximizing the number of people who can come, whilst giving preference to those flying or driving from far away, and taking into account when Don Wallace (the BBQ master) is able to attend.

For those who have not been to any of the previous three East Coast Blendzilla Meets, I live on 12.6 acres in a totally rural area. The dedicated Home Theater is in the basement. The display system consists of two ceiling mounted Mike Parker heavily mod'd Marquee 9500 Ultra projectors, fed by an Analog Way Diventix 8022 blend hardware unit, projecting onto a 144" wide 2.35 to 1 SmX acoustically transparent weave fixed mount screen. Sources include an Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player, a Toshiba HD-XA2 HD-DVD player, a Samsung ATSC over the air tuner, and a DirecTV tuner. I have the most recent MP VIM, neckboard, and Moome version 3 HDMI input card mods installed and stable. (To my knowledge, only 2 other locations have said mods, Mike Parker's own Marque 8500 Ultra, and Stridsvognen's Marquee 9500 Ultra in Denmark, I believe. Both of these are single projector setups.) This is the only place in the world where one can view the latest MP mods on a 12 foot wide screen via blended projectors.

The audio system starts with a Denon AVP-A1HDCI audio processor, feeding 5 Seaton Catalyst speakers (left wide, left front, center, right front, right wide), four Seaton Submersive HP subwoofers, and two legacy Fosgate SD-180 side sets of speakers. The Denon AVP-A1HDCI has the latest 3D pass through, Audyssey XT32, Audyssey DSX upgrade. The Home Theater has a complete audio treatment installed. Last week I performed an Audyssey XT32 Pro audio calibration, integrating the wide speakers into the system for the first time, and lowering the 10k watts of Submersive subwoofer audio level by 20 dB! (Sorry Don.) Two rows of black powered recliner theater seating comfortably seat 6 viewers at a time, with room for another 3 or 4 to lie down in the front (if desired), and 8 to 10 to stand in the rear, if desired.

Food may be provided by Don Wallace Productions, if he is available the weekend of the Meet. Don has provided BBQ beef and pork at all 3 previous East Coast Blendzilla Meets, and no one has left disappointed. It is rumored that crab legs might also be available. Various varieties of both commercial and home brewed beer should be on the menu, as well as Virginia wine. Other culinary goodies my appear, depending on who comes. The menu will be flushed out over time, as particular individuals commit to attending. In the past, we have had the food on the screen porch, outside, allowing attendees to sit on the patio and take a break/converse in between theater viewings.

If you are interested in coming, please post in the thread as to your availability. Let the process begin.........................

I posted the Meet notice here in the Seaton Sound forum because, anyone in the Mid Atlantic region, who is interested in hearing 5 Seaton Catalysts and 4 Seaton Submersive HPs, this is your chance.

If Mark has his new 3 way surround speakers out in time, they will be featured as well.

If Mark has his new 3 way surround speakers out in time, and he is able to come to the Meet to complete the audio integration, then a complete Mark Seaton sound system, integrated by Mark Seaton will be featured, along with the blended CRT projectors on the 12 foot wide screen.

Mark?

I would be happy to attend.  I expect we'll have some surrounds by then.  Let me know as soon as you confirm the 18th as I have to juggle a few things.  October 11th would not work for me as I'll be in Denver attending RMAF.  24th could work, but I'd have to bail on some concert tickets, and Nov 1st is the day after Halloween, so do update us here when you can confirm the date.

Dear Mark;

I intend to make the Meet date firm this weekend.  I'm giving some people who may be flying from all around the country, plus possibly Canada, plus possibly Europe a little more time to determine what dates they can make, before I firm up the date.  I expect I will set the date as October 18th, by the end of the weekend.

This is really great news about the possibility of your attending.  No way I would ever make you bail on concert tickets.    [smile]

Now THAT GTG should be fun! While I also have an all Seaton system, 5 Cat12's up
front and (hopefully) 4 Seston surrounds all calibrated by Mark should be phenomenal!!!

I will keep watch and think about attending! Thanks for posting.

Sorry about the delay in fixing the Meet date.  I've been trying to work with Don Wallace, to see if he would be able to make it to the Meet.  Unfortunately, his calendar is so busy, it would not matter what date I set the Meet for.  He would not be able to make it.  On the other hand, he is willing to still cook for the Meet.  So, we'll still be able to enjoy Don Wallace pulled pork BBQ, and Don Wallace beef brisket BBQ, along with his famous BBQ sauces, and perhaps some side dishes.

Given Don's availability, as well as the desires of those who have chimed in to the Meet announcements on Curt Palme's forum, AVSForum, and the Seaton Sound forum, I am firmly setting the Fourth East Coast Blendzilla Meet date as Saturday, October 18.  Anyone flying in can make plane reservations.  The Meet date will not change.

Loganvu, you are welcome to attend.  Richardx, you are also welcome to attend.  Washington Dulles airport is only about 20 miles from my home.

Audioguy and FOH, please let me know if you will attend.  I can promise that you would find this Meet to be among the most unique Meets you have ever attended.

Mark, please let me know if you will be attending.  If you do come, you probably should come at least one day early, for audio setup purposes.  You are welcome to stay at the house for the amount of time you are in the DC area.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the Meet!

I would like to try and attend.  I live in Vienna VA so I am local.  Love to see this beautiful basement of yours.

This sounds like you have quite a great set-up!  Man do I wish I could attend this, but I close on a house the day before this GTG is to take place and the movers start up on 10/19.  I would love to hear 5 Cats working for the mains and to hear the Denon in action.  It would also really be cool to see the menus for set-up that the Denon offers for multiple subs.

The Denon AVP-A1HDCI is something that would be incredible to own with the 3D and Audyssey upgrades pre-installed.  The ones I have seen for sale don't include that option.

Hopefully people have fun [smile]

So, we had a successful Meet on Saturday, October 18.  Mark did show up, late Saturday morning.  He had an adventure getting to my home.  He can chime in if he would like to narrate that story.

We still had to spend much of Saturday getting the CRT blend to properly function.  Saturday evening, Mark made an audio integration pass through my system.  He used his Goldline TEF real time analyzer to analyze the frequency response of my room.  There was a 20 dB hole just above 80 Hz, the cross over point between my Catalyst 12Cs and my 4 Submersive HPs.  He filled in the hole nicely by changing the subwoofer distances in Audyssey.  Then he listened to the rest of my Catalysts, and made some level adjustments to the Center speaker (it was too low), and adjusted the Audyssey DSX stage width from 0 to -6, to clear up the dialog and to spread the front stage out a little.

When the Catalyst surround speakers are out, Mark will come back out (possibly "bringing" a set with him), and perform a final audio integration on the complete system of 5 Catalyst 12Cs, 4 Submersive HPs, and 2 Catalyst surrounds (product name TBD).  That final audio integration will include slightly moving the front Submersive HPs (which serve double duty as the speaker stands for the front wide Catalyst 12C speakers) a little closer to the front row of seats, then running Audyssey Pro to measure the room response and calculate the Audyssey filters, measuring the room responses using the Goldline TEF real time analyzer, probably tweaking the Audyssey filters by setting up a "house curve" in the Audyssey Pro software, and probably tweaking both selected speaker distances and levels.  There may also be some DSP-30 tweaking involved as well.  This session will be just Mark and I.  No Home Theater Meet overlaid, like just happened this last weekend.  Then we will sit back and watch and listen!!!!

William,

Thank you for the hospitality. (AND delicious home brews)

Your theater is impressive.

I can't wait to hear it when you get the new surrounds.

You are most welcome, Brendan.  I hope you had a good time at the Meet, and that Peanut the guard dog did not unnecessarily scare you.

Peanut is very loveable.
She is definitely more sociable than some people who frequent various forums (excluding this one).[smile]
