Fantastic news!!!

My wife loves the look of the rosewood but she never trusted mls and doubted I would ever anything more than just "a pretty end table".

It will be nice to finally have that piece do more than hold a basket of chips.

Ok

I think I have a winner here

I will be starting a new thread in the next few days with the all the info including graphs.  I sent them to mark for review and going to let him post them up with all the apropriate highpoints( or should I say lowpoints)

I saw on another forum that there were serious flaws with the design of the first version of the 12" speaker, particularly the basket. Is this true and how can I tell if that is what I have?

I got my UFW-12 at the beginning and I actually pre-paid and waited about 10 months to get it. It had bad veneer cracks and had to be replaced. I have no idea what version I have but it seems likely it is Version 1. I'm not sure if the serial number will do you any good but it is 0510F12085. I saw no date anywhere on the unit but I was not real sure where to look for it.

I appreciate the help and look forward to the amp upgrade details.

The first version of the woofer to be used in the UFW-12 never got shipped.  They had a carbon fiber/kevlar/nomex something woven looking cone.  All UFW-12s were delivered with the same reinforced paper cone, polly dust cap, and the surround is stitched on.

The Spider is the problem not the basket.  No version 1 drivers shipped in finished products.

This is version 1:

This is version 2: (shipping version)

Thanks for the info. I definitely have version 2.

I am looking forward to amp upgrade. I have only played the sub twice since I bought so many years ago and I was so disappointed with the performance that I never played it again. Then I got caught up in the endless loop of waiting for the "upgrade" or "hot rod" or whatever was the current operating story from mls.

It will be nice to finally have a sub that will do what it should in a home theater set-up.
