I'm happy to announce we will be demonstrating in Room 441 (Atrium 4th) of the Denver Tech Center Marriott at the 2014 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF).

Some know I have been attending this show for many years.  After the large surround sound displays we assembled for Axpona and THE Show Newport, I spotted a room which became available last week and saw an opportunity to give show goers a different taste of Seaton Sound.  Most know about our very impressive SubMersive subwoofer models, but far fewer have had an opportunity to hear our Catalyst main speakers.  Attending CEDIA and setting up at the last 2 shows further emphasized how important setup and optimization is to make these temporary setups at all representative of what products are capable of.  As such, I asked for some help from MiniDSP, and they are sending us a DDRC-22AD equipped with Dirac Live room correction technology.

[dirac-series-header-600-logos]

This version takes the digital signal from my Baetis Revolution II or Oppo BDP-105 applying Dirac Live correction to the digital signal before outputting the analog signal on a pair of XLR cables directly to each Catalyst 12C.  I will be able to save and recall 4 different target curves offering a few different examples of the presentations the Catalysts can offer in a room.  I have been very impressed with the Dirac Live correction I've used in the DataSat RS20i, and it is great to have this correction technology available for an elegant stereo system.

Using the full range DSP mode on the Catalyst 12C, I expect we'll see a corrected response extending to around 10Hz in room.  2000W powering 4 very clean, sealed 12" woofers are quite powerful in the context of most music listening. [cool]

We'll also be bringing along the 6 free standing acoustic panels we fabricated for AXPONA and THE Show at Newport which have an effective area of 32" x 48" each.  That's equivalent to 8 common 2' x 4' panels.  I'm hopeful and excited to set up an elegant and impressive demonstration for those who make it by the room at RMAF 2014. [smile]

Before we packed up the pair of 12Cs for the show we took a few pictures to remind people of the scale of the Catalyst 12Cs (matching stands were already packed).  Of course it's always nice when subwoofers can stand in as an impromptu photo backdrop. [cool]

I look forward to meeting and talking with all those attending RMAF and of course catching up with many customers and fans.

See you there.

With luck, you can get a few runs in at Loveland or A-Basin. [biggrin]

So this will be a 2 channel room only? And no subs?

Correct. I probably wouldn't feel as inclined to do straight stereo without the flexibility of Dirac Live, but a full range setup extending to ~10Hz while demonstrating the sound of the speakers. Next year I will probably set up a surround system using more compact speakers, but that involved a setup wasn't viable this year. This should be a fun intro to the RMAF attendees our first year showing.

You never know, but last year I recall snowmaking getting started a little earlier. I remember last year finding out opening day would be Sunday just after I landed in Denver. This year my gear is already in Denver at My Sister's home just waiting for the snow to come. Epic LocalPass already in hand

Thursday night I'll be posting the sale price for the pair of black maple Catalyst 12C's and optional matching stands we will have on display at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver Friday through Sunday in room 441 of the Atrium. You do not have to be present at the show to purchase them, but the purchase must be made by 3pm Sunday (Mountain Time). The pair will be available along with an almost as good deal on a matching 12C or 8C center channel. I rarely offer significant discount on Catalysts, so if you've been waiting and black maple will work, this is it!

I will be on a flight to Denver tomorrow afternoon and have had many details to coordinate for show and the room.  I am a little behind on e-mail, but I'll be catching up on most between now and Friday morning.  E-mail will be the best way to get in touch with us until Tuesday, October 14th.  We can still get orders in place and in stock items shipped out Tuesday while I'm attending the show.

Hey Mark, travel safely and I hope you have a spectacular show! Like many others, I know full well the excitement and realism your Catalysts can impart unto the experience. I also know that room acoustics at these shows can be challenging, but with your savvy room integration/setup chops, you're quite likely to impress.
Best of luck, and have a great time.

The first day is wrapped up and we met many eager enthusiasts surprisingly welcoming of our internally powered, and somewhat less conventional Catalyst 12C setup.  After a good deal of adjusting the placement of speakers and room treatments, we were able to use Dirac Live to give the system its final polish with very pleasing results.  No system will fit all musical tastes and preferences, but we had many approving listeners through the room on just the first day.

I know many are either attending RMAF or watching for all the reports, and I want to confirm the new pair of black maple Catalyst 12C's being demonstrated are available for sale. (I suspect they will be grabbed very quickly!)

Edit: The Catalyst 12Cs demonstrated at RMAF 2014 were snatched up rather quickly.

Thank you again for all the public and private support! [thumb]

I'll be posting pictures and links here to comments, reports and reviews of our room at this year's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.  Those who follow our facebook page have seen a handful of reports I've already posted links to.  If any of you come across reports on the room I haven't already linked please feel free to post here.

I'll start with some great photos my sister was able to take of the room for me.  Her and her family moving to Denver last year made it an easy decision to jump on the last minute room opening only a few weeks before the show as I was able to line up some extra support for the room with some family help.

Those Catalysts are beautiful!  It really seems a shame to place them behind an acoustically transparent screen in a home theater setting.

Put the center behind the screen and the other two in front. Problem solved !!

Congratulations - well set up/treated room. And you were one of the few that articulated your ideas/design - that was refreshing.

It was a pleasure to meet you and I appreciate the shipping offer.

The full report of our Rocky Mountain Audio Fest room from Dennis & Wayne at Home Theater Shack is now posted. There are some additional pictures at in the HTShack coverage, but here are a few highlights:

"I watched a guy jump right out of his chair when one demo song started to play!" -Dennis (aka tesseract)

"I jotted in my notebook that the soundstage was GREAT (with double under-line), a break-down-the-walls soundstage with super-tight image clarity. And what gave me a special thrill in this case was the dynamic nature of the sound. Every note stood out with an impact of its own. Every sound in the sound field was being presented by way of special delivery. This does not happen by accident.

...The room earned one of my four Wow! Awards, and my single Most Dynamic Speaker award for the show." -Wayne (aka Audiocraver)

Apparently I can't directly load the Google+ videos here, but I need to give a big thank you to Jim Clements of Secret's of Home Theater & Hi Fidelity "CAVE" blog for having me start over with the system run down to take a complete video of it.

Direct link to Video.
