Hi guys,

I got an e-mail to Eminence yesterday, and confirmed that AV123 still owed them about $25k (a long time ago it was a very embarrassing ~$120k).  I should find out Monday if they still have a small stash of drivers which I will likely be grabbing.

I also have started fishing for a cast frame replacement driver with better overload behavior from a handful of my various suppliers.

Woohoo! That's awesome news Mark! Not about Eminence being royally screwed like that. But about a replacement driver. It's just amazing how out of control things got with av123. A sad sad time for all the people who got screwed by MLS.

I'm 1 of the many individuals who keep harping on about the MFW driver being too easy to bottom out. The v3 amp in my opinion and my experience seems to be a really good amp so far.

I do wonder if the driver has gotten cheaped out over time. My 2 drivers from my v2 subs do seem to perform better than my 2 v3 sub drivers overall. I can get a bit more output out of the v2 drivers without fear of bottoming them out like I can with my v3 drivers. Maybe there is some truth to av123 using some knock off drivers in their latest offerings to save a buck or 2..............?

Anyways, if the v3 amp is the amp it should have been and does prove to be reliable, it sure would be nice to have a good driver to compliment it for us cheap MFW'ers out there such as myself. I have 4 of these thing's and have even considered adding 2-3 more

Ideally I'd like 3 more for a grand total of 7. I might actually do this if the stars align, and the following 3 things happen....

1. The v3 amp proves to be a great and reliable amp.

2. I can buy 3 more MFW's for the right price.

3. A new and improved driver can be had for a decent price that can be used effectively for the MFW.

One thing to keep in mind, Unless you have a huge room and just like stacking amps
The turbo is about 2X the output of a single, plus a much increased sound quality and inability to make it bottom out or any other noise, plus you dont have to worry about it burning your house down!!

Man make sure if driver/amp sourcing comes to fruition that you guys put your name all over it, I would love to get their name off all my gear.

Maybe you'll finally get the MFW you designed into the hands of consumers.......

That's a good point Kevin

MY rational behind all these subs is basically due to the fact that my HT area is about 10,000 cubic square feet so I have plenty of space to fill. And also the positioning of all the subs. If I had my way and had all those subs where I want to put them. It would look pretty damn awesome. So I am wanting all these subs mainly for looks and then performance.

Here's a pic of my HT area. The pics are old, so they don't have any of my subs in there. The 3 X's are where 3 of the MFW's would go. Having the MFW's where the X's are, they fit perfectly in those area's and look really really nice.
Another reason why I'm so set on the MFW is due to the moho diamond finish, it really looks nice with the flooring. Anyways, here's an enclosed pic.

So I also have a pair of black MFW's, 1 on each side of my TV. I had considered adding another pair to put on top of each MFW, and my reasoning for this is so that it provides basically a wall, so that you can not see all the wiring and stuff behind the TV. I'd LOVE to get some turbo's, but I'm happy as it is with the SQ of the MFW's, it's just my reasoning for more MFW's is mainly for looks, and also having them situated around me really add's to the oomph you can feel during high impact LFE moments.  Hopefully my reasoning is sound and makes sense. Sorry to get this thread off track .

At least that was self inflicted.  The embarrassment comes from having brought Eminence into the fiasco.  As a great example, those drivers Danny is selling from Santiago/Colombia were never fully paid for.  I expect I will have access to 50-75 of the original drivers which can be sold for a reasonable amount, and then I already have 2 sources working on potential replacement drivers which will improve behavior at high level and also be capable of improved performance with a new amplifier.  Depending on what I find with a drop-in option, I might not bother with the originals, so that aspect is still up in the air.

Well, if you don't buy them I'm sure Parts Express would love to close 'em out.

Anyone have an extra MFW-15 v3 amp for sale?

I'll even take a v2 amp. 1 of my amps caught on fire the other night.

FWIW I happen to have a couple of spare MFW-15 drivers laying around.

I have an unused x-sub amp that has never been used and came from AV123.  I don't need it so I'd trade it for a MFW15 amp or a ULW/UFW amp.  Or let me know if you have something else for trade.
Thanks,
Steve

My understanding is we might have a prototype driver in later this week or early next

I hope this is OK to post. Kevin, let me know if it's not. I'll post this in the main thread also.

I picked up 3 cabinets at the AV123 auction. I have 2 for sell

1 - satin black. Definitely C stock. Includes satin black faceplate, no amp or controls, no driver, no screws for face plate, never had a driver mounted (so no Swiss cheese)

$50 + shipping + a little for additional packing materials (the box will take LOTS of tape)

1 - Moho in DIAMOND finish. It's about 40% light wood and 60% dark wood. Includes black diamond faceplate, no amp, no driver, no screws for face plate. Driver mounted only once (so no Swiss cheese). There's minor scratches and a couple of areas of moderate scratches on the face plate. These might buff out. The cabinet has very minor scratches and scuffs. The veneer joint lines are visible but no more that on some "high end" furniture we've purchased.

$150 + shipping + a little for additional packing materials (the box will take LOTS of tape)

I'll try to post pics tomorrow after work.

I have the foam packing material and will double box them.

OK here's the pics. You can click on the thumbnails for larger images.

I've tried to describe the issues and be as honest as possible

Black

left side

crack in finish on back

right side

front

detail of surface crack in MDF

top

Moho

front with diamond face plate

scuff/dent on bottom left

back

angle

mild scuffs & scratches (focus is a little off, they are a LITTLE worse than this)

veneer seam, it's the dark line in the middle of the pic. Probably a little less noticable in person

diamond black face plate. The flash make them stand out more than in person. The circular or curved lines are very mild scratches. They are not very noticable in person. The straight lines are moderate scratches. If you're a detail person, you'll notice them from a distance. The average person will only notice them if they look closely.

Looking for a driver replacement. How would I know which version I have of the MFW-15? I bought it in April of 2008.

All the drivers should be the same, it was the amps that there are different versions due to mass failures.

We should have a sample  here this week some time of a really nice replacement driver, if everything is to spec, it shouldnt take long to start getting them in.

Looking forward to reading about how these turn out!

Also got a pm about unused in box replacement driver selling on eBay and added that to my watch list. Only thing that worries me about that is if it's untested it could end up being one of the rumored knockoff drivers AV123 may have sent out that bottoms out or has other issues. I'll probably just wait and read about the ones Mike and Kevin are working on.
